Construction of the first apartments in the East Frame Residential Development will begin in late March/early April 2017.
The 2800m2 site on the corner of Hereford Street and Latimer Square, known as Superlot 4, will be developed by Fletcher Living into 20 terrace homes of up to three levels including garaging.
Ōtākaro Limited Chief Executive Albert Brantley says the homes on Superlot 4 will be completed around May 2018, earlier than originally scheduled.
“We have all been eager to see construction on these homes start, but the scale of this development meant it was essential to get the planning right to ensure Christchurch gets a high-quality development that makes the central city an increasingly appealing place to be,” says Mr Brantley.
The East Frame Residential development spans five city blocks and will take around nine years to complete, with Fletcher Living carrying out construction in stages. The East Frame will consist of approximately 900 homes, a mix of terrace homes and apartments and is expected to be home over 2000 people.
These homes will line the East Frame public space, the third largest park in the central city. Ōtākaro Limited began work on the 660 metre park in October with completion expected at the end of 2017.
“The combination of the public space and new homes will stimulate other activities and businesses like cafés, restaurants and events within the central city, and will add to the regeneration of the city” says Mr Brantley.
Fletcher Building Residential and Land Development Chief Executive Mr Steve Evans is excited by progress on the East Frame project.
“Fletcher Living is known for giving people more space for living with our well designed homes, neighbourhoods and new communities. We are proud of what we have achieved at Awatea and are looking forward to bringing people back to the central city. The East Frame will be a development we can all be proud of and we look forward to delivering a great result for Canterbury.”
Ōtākaro is continuing to work with Fletcher Living on additional Superlots. Subject to further work on design and commercial proposals, as well as gaining all necessary approvals, Ōtākaro plans to transfer Superlot 7 (corner of Madras and Lichfield Streets) and Superlot 11 (between Worcester and Hereford Streets) to Fletcher Living around the middle of 2017 to continue residential construction in the East Frame.
